Coach Abernathy is a native of Ringgold, Georgia and a graduate of Heritage High School, where he played offensive and defensive line for the Generals from 2008-2011. In 2017, he earned his B.A. in History and B.S.Ed. in Secondary Social Studies Education from the University of Georgia. In 2022, he received his M.A. in Secondary History Education from Piedmont University.

Coach Abernathy is entering his second year on the Colts’ coaching staff and ninth year overall. Prior to coming to the Creek, he spent three seasons at Murray County High School, where he coached defensive line and defensive backs. Prior to his stint at Murray County, he served in a variety of roles at Gladden Middle School, including as head coach and defensive coordinator.

He and his wife, Sarah Whitney, reside in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
