An intense week at practice has Coahulla Creek ready to go
After an enlightenig game against the Sonoraville Phoenix, the Colts have turned their focus to preparing for this week’s match up against the Rockmart Jackets. After looking at the overall game, the Colts recognized areas they need to improve in order to perform at a higher level. Senior OL/DL Chevy Joyce noted that the Colts could have “played more physically and with more energy.” Offensive Player of the Week Silas Pledger explains that the Colts need to “focus more and not let mistakes get to us.” While the Colts did not bring their best efforts against the Phoenix, they now understand their potential and are determined to show it as they take on Rockmart Jackets.
This week in practice the Colts are focusing on raising their level of play and proving they can compete for a full four quarters. Chevy tells us “we are better than only playing a half of a game.” Pledger also admits the importance of limiting mistakes and staying locked in when the game gets tough, he says “we need to keep the energy.” Coaches have echoed these points many times, pushing the players to bring more energy, discipline, and physicality into every rep at practice. The Colts are working together to strengthen their sportsmanship, improve their execution, and bring the kind of intensity that will carry over on Friday night.
The coaches are expecting the players to go out this week and attack the game with mental focus that they have talked about at practice. Head Coach Drew Carter emphasized how “we need to be able to maintain that all the way through the game and kind of see where we fall after that.” Consistency has been a major topic at practice, as the team works to understand what is expected against tougher opponents and how staying locked in for four quarters can make the difference between winning and losing.
Mistakes are inevitable, but how the team responds is just as important. Coach Carter explained that small errors in execution can quickly turn into setbacks on the scoreboard and he tells us the key success to this week’s game is to “eliminate turnovers.” Learning to overcome these minor mistakes before leading to more powerful mistakes will help our players in a longer run. This resilience during practice will help the team compete at a higher level and more comfortably.
We hit the road this Friday to face the Rockmart Jackets. With better preparation and more energy from our players, we are expecting a great game. Our Colts need you there to cheer them on as they face this tough opponent. We expect to see some great plays and a better outcome. Our players are coming with more dedication and hard work. Kickoff is set for 7:30 and our Colts would be honored to see a huge crowd. Our players are motivated, dedicated, and ready for a hard fight against the Jackets under the Friday night lights.
If you can’t attend in person, the game can be heard on the Coahulla Creek Sports Network.
