Coahulla Creek Looks to Bounce Back After Tough Loss to Ringgold

The Coahulla Creek Colts suffered another difficult loss against Ringgold, falling to their second consecutive defeat. Despite the disappointing result, the Colts showed energy and determination throughout the game. However, turnovers and missed opportunities proved costly as Ringgold took advantage of mistakes and secured a 42-7 victory.

The Colts got on the scoreboard early in the game when Brodie Howell scored a 40-yard touchdown on a screen pass with 4:08 remaining in the first quarter. However, as the game continued, Coahulla Creek struggled to overcome turnovers and missed opportunities on both sides of the ball.

Although the final score was difficult, head coach Drew Carter emphasized that the team’s effort and passion were not the problem. Instead, he pointed to mistakes that put the Colts in challenging situations and prevented them from taking advantage of scoring opportunities.

“I was really proud of the energy and the passion that we played with,” Carter said. “We put our defense in some bad situations because of the turnovers. I don’t think that they played in a way that shows that they gave up 42 points.”

Carter also noted that the offense showed signs of improvement in the second half, moving the ball on its drives and putting itself in position to score. Unfortunately, mistakes at important moments prevented the Colts from turning those opportunities into points.

Turnovers have become a major concern for Coahulla Creek, especially in its losses. Carter explained that correcting the problem will require more than simply asking players to hold on to the football. The entire offense must execute its responsibilities, from protecting the quarterback to running the correct routes and maintaining blocks.

“You can’t turn the ball over, and then our defense has to create some turnovers,” Carter said. “It’s kind of been the common trend of the games we’ve lost this year.”

The coaching staff will emphasize fundamentals and execution during practice this week. Carter believes that improving these areas will be essential as the Colts prepare for their next opponent. He also stressed the importance of recognizing opportunities when they appear, whether that means making a big play on offense or coming up with an interception on defense.

Senior Tyler Douglas agreed that turnovers were the team’s biggest challenge against Ringgold. Despite the score getting away from the Colts, Douglas remained focused on making the most of each play and finding ways to help his team.

“I was just focused on one play at a time and trying to make something happen with the moment in front of me,” Douglas said.

Douglas believes the team can use its determination as motivation moving forward. Even while trailing, he saw teammates continue to fight rather than give up.

“I saw a fight inside of my team even when we were down, and with that we can lead to bigger plays, more points on the board,” Douglas said.

Luke Turner also recognized the challenges the Colts faced, pointing to staying focused as one of the team’s biggest struggles. As the game became more difficult, Turner concentrated on finding ways to motivate his teammates and help the team remain competitive.

Looking ahead, Turner is determined to help Coahulla Creek make the most of its upcoming practices.

“It’ll be the best practice we’ll ever have, and I’ll make sure of it,” Turner said.

Turner also believes the team still has plenty of fight left, even after two consecutive losses.

“That we still got some fire in us,” Turner said when asked what he saw from his teammates that the team could build on.

As the Colts move forward, their focus will be on correcting mistakes, improving execution and taking advantage of the opportunities presented to them. Carter emphasized that every play matters, and the team must be ready to capitalize when opportunities arise.

While the loss to Ringgold was a setback, Coahulla Creek has identified the areas it needs to improve. With an emphasis on fundamentals, ball security and creating turnovers on defense, the Colts will look to turn those lessons into progress.

The road back will require hard work and consistency, but the determination shown by players like Douglas and Turner gives the team something to build on. Now, the Colts must carry that energy into practice and work toward getting back in the win column.
