Coahulla Creek battles to the very end with 7th ranked North Murray
The Colts put up a strong fight Friday night against the North Murray Mountaineers, but ultimately came up just short, 21-16, in a competitive matchup that kept everyone on the edge of their seats. Head coach Drew Carter explains to us that our players “played their butts off, they gave themselves an opportunity to win, so I can’t complain about the way we played, we played with passion and energy.” Despite the loss, the team showed grit, a lot of improvement, and determination that did not go unnoticed.
To start off the night our Colts made the perfect set up for senior kicker Edward Alvarez to make a field goal, giving the Colts a 3-0 lead. Immediately following, Alvarez and the kickoff team successfully converted on a surprise onside kick, which setup QB Waelyn Baliles for a 5-yard touchdown run, extending the Colts’ lead to 10-0. On the defensive side of the ball we saw LB Wyatt Mann with the interception in the second quarter.
The Colts lead 10-7 at halftime, and that score held until 28 seconds left in the 3rd quarter when North Murray took their first lead of the game.
Finally, to pick our scoring back up in the last quarter, Tyler Douglas scored a touchdown for the Colts to cut the lead to 21-16. The Colts failed to recovered and onside attempt at the end of the game, which allowed the Mountaineers to run the clock out.
Coach Carter was very impressed with our defensive and offensive line during the game. He was super proud of the way the O-line protected QB Baliles and how they opened up some good holes. Carter also touches on this being one of Baliles best games yet. He mentioned how “dangerous” Tyler Douglas was during the game as well. Carter tells us “I think they set the tone for the whole game.”
Even though the final score did not fall in the Colts favor, there were plenty of positives to take away from the game. The team displayed strong communication, better discipline, and noticeable growth since last week’s performance. The players have been emphasizing consistency and focus in practice, and it showed throughout the entire game with solid drives and improved execution. After the game Carter made sure to let his players know how proud he was for taking on such a strong team and playing the way they did. Coach Carter noted “I told them that we can play with anybody when they play like that. With that type of energy and the way we were playing within the scheme, we can play with anybody.”
The Colts continue to build on their teamwork and determination, keeping their heads high and focusing on what’s ahead. With another big game coming up next week, they’re ready to use this experience as motivation to come back even stronger. Next Friday the Colts will take the field one last time in the regular season as they face off against the Ringgold Tigers. The matchup will also mark Senior Night for our Colts, a special evening to honor the dedication and leadership of the seniors who have poured their hearts into the program. The team is determined to finish the season strong and give their seniors one final victory under the home lights. Kickoff is set for 7:30, and the Colts hope to see the stands filled with fans cheering them on. Join us one last time at The Creek this season!
