Colts “ready” and “locked in” for game vs. North Murray

Coahulla Creek looking for big bounce back in tonight’s homecoming contest

After a tough loss to Union County last week, the Colts are entering this Friday’s matchup against the North Murray Mountaineers with renewed sense of drive and focus. The team played a competitive first half last week, but couldn’t hold it down the stretch. This week in practice the main focus has been handling their own business. Head Coach Drew Carter explains “we got to control the things that we can control, you know I didn’t want our guys to get caught up in what went wrong with officiating or anything like that, because the bottom line is that we missed a couple opportunities.” With lessons learned and mindset focused on improvement, the Colts are ready to prove themselves under the Friday night lights once again. Senior Ellijah Faraji tells us “Oh, we’re ready. Practice has been intense, everybody’s locked in, flying around, and you can feel the energy. We are dialed in and hungry.”

Throughout the week, practices have been centered around correcting the mistakes made in the last game, so we do not make the same mistakes again. Coach Carter has made it clear that the key to coming out and finishing stronger is “Eliminating turnovers offensively, we got to protect the ball better. Defensively, the opponent has a lot of good explosive runners so we have to get tackles and have to plug it at the line of scrimmage.” The team has worked hard on limiting penalties, improving communication on both sides of the ball, and finishing drives with confidence. FB Brody Howell tells us he plans to focus more on “my own tasks and not on others.” Every rep at practice this week is another chance to come out this week on top.

The energy being seen on the field has been noticeably different. Instead of letting last week’s defeat linger, the Colts have used it as fuel to prepare harder and smarter. Our Colts are coming out motivated this week. Farji notes that his mindset is to “dominate every play, bring energy, lead by example, and leave everything on the field. We are coming for that W (win), no question about it.” Howell also notes his mindset is “to give it all I’ve got and do my task at hand, because I do think our team is ready.” The players have come together with a stronger mindset and they are determined to turn the frustration of last week into positive momentum. With the team’s focus shifting to accountability and execution, the Colts are showing growth, not just physically, but mentally as well.

Carter states that he “expects our guys to come out and play hard, and clean up some of those things, and attack it with an opportunity to go and play a really good team. You know, if we can do those things, then we’ll go out there and compete the best we can.”

As game day approaches, the Colts are locked in to show their progression. The team is ready to play hard, stay disciplined, and fight for a much needed win. Kickoff is set for 7:30 this Friday at Colt Stadium. With it being our homecoming night and a huge game, our Colts are eager for a big crowd to cheer them on. The Colts are counting on their preparation and teamwork to help them bounce back strong. Come support our homecoming court, but most importantly support our COLTS as they battle the Mountaineers tonight.
