Coahulla Creek finally back for first home game in 5 weeks
Heading into this Friday night’s game against the Murray County Indians, the Colts have been striving for excellence at practice. Head coach Drew Carter explains how proud he was of our players’ confidence and “I think trying to build on that and that way we can compete through everything.” The Colts main focus this week is their competition level with a longtime region rival, Murray County, coming to The Creek. After last Friday’s night game against a talented LFO team, where the Colts found themselves in a tight contest into the 4th quarter, coaches and fans were proud of their effort, and now want to see that competitiveness turn into victories.
The key to this Friday night’s game is to have a strong offense. QB Waeyln Baliles tells us that the most important thing he needs to work on is “being able to stay in the pocket better instead of trying to escape the pocket and get away from the defensive line, and keep my head up instead of looking down for pressure.” Our offense has shown great improvement throughout the season. The Colts have their best offensive yardage output since 2023 last week, with over 400 yards of total offense.
Players are determined to keep that momentum going. Coach Carter stated “we had a couple of short 3rd and 4th downs [last week], and we have to be able to convert those.” With sharper communication and better timing, the team hopes to dominate on the field and keep consistent pressure on the Indians’ defense.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Colts are preparing to bring intensity and discipline to Friday night’s game. Senior DL Jackson Lowery emphasizes that he needs to be able to “look at the next play and forget what happened the plays before” in order to be more consistent and better himself during the game. Our Colts’ defense is strong and very determined to not let their opponents’ score. Carter also noted “Defensively we can’t give up big plays with either missed tackles or a busted coverage. Overall, I really thought we played well on both sides of the ball [last week].” The defense has been working more on limiting big plays and improving their tackling. With strong communication and quick reactions our Colts will be ready to take on the Indians’ in Friday’s game.
Overall, the Colts are confident and prepared to face Murray County. Baliles and Lowery declare that “We’re ready and motivated to win this game on Friday and swing the momentum in our favor.” After a week of focused practices and team preparation, the players are eager to step onto the field and give one of their best performances yet. With both the offense and defense coming together, the team is determined to play with energy, unity, and their hearts.
The Colts are ready to show off their hard work and dedication against the Indians’ on Friday. Coach Carter notes “Our guys seem motivated to make it happen.” Come out and support your Colts this Friday against the Murray County Indians. Come dressed in your best YEEHAW outfits to show your support. The players love to see a big crowd, especially in the HOME stands. Kickoff is set for 7:30, as the Colts are back home at The Creek for the first time in 5 weeks. Also, make sure to support our Rec league football players too, who will be recognized before the game.
