Colts “focused and energetic” coming off bye week

Coahulla Creek begins first of 3 straight road games Friday night

The Colts kick back into the rhythm of game week after a hard-fought loss in their region opener and a bye week. Coahulla Creek is set to take on Sonoraville this Friday night under the lights in Calhoun, heading back out on the road for the first time since the first game of the season. After that tough loss in their most recent game, both the coaches and players say the energy, focus, and confidence are back where they need to be.

Head Coach Drew Carter emphasized how valuable the week off was for his squad. He tells us, “We had a good bye week of preparation. I let the guys go, get some rest, and they came back pretty focused,” Carter said. “We got back to fundamentals, and now we’ve transitioned into a game-week flow. The energy level’s gotten back where it needs to be.” Carter also pointed out that the North Cobb Christian game served as a wake-up call for his players. After a tough 2nd half against the Eagles, he believes, “We realized what it’s going to take to be a quality team,” he said. “What we did in the first half against North Cobb was good enough to compete, but we’ve got to piece that together for a full game. I think our guys learned from that experience, and we’re eager to right that wrong.”

The players agreed about their confidence heading into Friday’s matchup. Senior WR/DB Landon Bryant tells us his optimism about the team’s preparation. He explains how the players have “practiced hard this week,” and he feels “like we’re gonna come out strong. Our team’s more locked in than we were before, and that loss really helped us focus.”

We continue to hear more about the mindset of these players going into this week’s game against Sonoraville. Senior OL  Kenon Hughes added that the team has been working on improving every detail of their game. Hughes is ready to show up and “surprise a lot of people,” continuing to say “We’ve been working on fixing mistakes and making sure we put together a full game, not just one half.”

The Colts want more than just being competitive in this game, their goal is to win.

Coach Carter believes that build up with mindset will pay off when the Colts hit the field against Sonoraville.“We’ve had some good weeks of preparation,” Carter said. “It’s about piecing together a full game and playing with confidence from start to finish.” He also does not leave out the fact he knows his players are ready for this fight. With better energy, more focus, and a hunger to bounce back, the Colts are ready for another edition of Friday Night Lights.

Join us in Calhoun as the Coahulla Creek Colts take on the Sonoraville Phoenix. Kickoff is set for 7:30pm, and the game can be heard on the Coahulla Creek Sports Network.
