Hot start, cold finish

Colts will focus on “self scouting” during bye week

Last Friday night the Colts fell short against the North Cobb Christian Eagles 38-24. The Colts started out the game on fire, setting the tone early with explosive plays and an impressive first half lead. Elijah Faraji opened the game with a 40 yard carry off of the kick return, followed by a 40 yard catch from senior WR Landon Bryant. This led the Colts to the first score of the game setting up Kicker Edward Alvarez for a perfect field goal leading Colts 3-0 in the first minutes of the game.

On the ensuing defensive possession, Kobe King recovered a fumble giving our offense another chance to extend the lead. Which is exactly what happened as Tyler Douglas powered his way into the end zone for a touchdown with 4:21 in the 1st quarter, giving the Colts a 10-0 lead. Tyler Douglas wasn’t finished yet, he needed more. Despite the many penalties and flags during the second quarter, Douglas was in the end zone again on a phenomenal 32 yard TD catch, running through 4 defenders on his way into the end zone, leading our Colts 17-7 advantage. We continued to see touchdowns as QB Waelyn Baliles scored on a 41 yard keeper at the 2:40 mark of the second quarter, pushing the Colts ahead 24-14. The 24 points was the most first half scoring by Coahulla Creek in over 2 years.

“Our offense saw success early, and it created momentum and confidence. The entire offensive unit grabbed onto it and played really well,” says Coach Drew Carter.

The Colts led 24-21 at halftime, but couldn’t sustain the momentum into the second half. The Eagles regrouped during halftime and dominated the Colts during the final two quarters, eventually winning 38-24.

Coach Carter said he was “Proud of how our team competed against such a quality opponent. We have to use this game as a lesson of what it takes to beat a playoff caliber team.”

Now in the middle of a bye week, Carter says The Creek will be taking time to “focus on corrections and fundamentals” as well as doing some “self scouting.”

The Colts will be back in action on 9/12 at Sonoraville, as they hope to see improvements from their second half mistakes vs. NCC, and build on the positive things they did in the first half.
