Colts explode for first victory of the season following 2 hour lightning delay

Friday night the Colts pulled off a tremendous win against the Chattooga Indians. Coahulla Creek brought home the victory in their first home game of the season. The stands were packed and the crowd was loud; the night was perfect (outside of Mother Nature) for Colt Country.

Defense starred early the contest, as neither team’s offense could get anything going in the first half. In fact, the first points of the game came on a 2nd quarter safety following botched snap by Chattooga in their own endzone. Wyatt Mann led the charge of the Colts defense to tackle the Indians’ punter for the 2-pointer. As the night continued the game was delayed over an hour due to a storm. 

After the delay we saw our Colts hustle out to the field with excitement and eagerness. Coach Drew Carter tells us “we were tight in the first half, our defense played unbelievable though, but we just couldn’t ever get into rhythm offensively.”

Our Colts started making plays and building their energy level on the field and sidelines and Carter proceeded to say “it was contagious and they just fed off of each other, and it kind of went from there.” As soon as we got back onto the field for the start of the 2nd half we saw a game-breaking play by senior WR/DB Ellijah Faraji, with a kickoff return touchdown leading to a Colts 9-0 lead. It was only the 2nd kickoff return for a touchdown school history.

We continued to see more scoring from the offense, including 2 receiving touchdowns from Tyler Douglas (one for 65 yards, and the other for 15 yards). Quarterback Waelyn Baliles got things going with his legs, scoring on a 13 yard keeper. Leading the Colts to a 30-7 win over Chattooga.

Our Colts did not disappoint this week and played a great game. We are expecting to see more of this game’s outcome the rest of the season. Coach Carter was thrilled to see “themselves and see their teammates start making huge plays and what it leads to.” He was very excited with the outcome and was very proud of his players. Carter tells us he was very impressed with River Choate’s performance on defense and Tyler Douglas with his performance on offense. He states “River Choate and Tyler Douglas were very contagious, everybody, once they saw them start making great plays, they all just went along with it.”

As we head into our region opener this coming week against North Cobb Christian we hope to see the same energy on our field. Carter concludes that he hopes we are mature with our energy and handle it in a good way because “that’s like the blood in the water type stuff and will make us a little more hungry.” 

Join us at the Colt Stadium this Friday as we host the North Cobb Christian Eagles for the first time ever at our stadium. We hope to see as big of a crowd as we saw on Friday with the same energy going into this game, helping our Colts maintain the confidence they gained in this game. Kickoff is set for 7:30, come support our Colts for the big game Friday night.
