The Creek will look to clean up costly mistakes heading into week 2

Thursday night the Colts suffered a loss to open the season vs. the Northwest Bruins. Inconsistency across the board by The Creek helped lead to a loss. Coach Drew Carter says he was disappointed in how the game ended on Thursday and mainly “it was because of the types of mistakes that we made that kept giving them so many opportunities. They were mistakes that we haven’t seen us make during the preseason games.” The Colts lost to the Bruins 35-13.

Coahulla started off looking promising, as they stalemated Northwest for most of the first quarter. After the Colts failed to get anything going offensively on the game’s opening possession, the Bruins moved the ball down to the Coahulla 3-yard line where Ellijah Faraji broke up a pass on 4th down, turning Northwest away empty-handed. Later during the first half we saw another defensive stand in the redzone as Kobe King intercepted his first of two passes at the 2 yard line. Coach Carter was impressed by the efforts on that side of the ball, saying, “our defense played really well.” 

Our second and third quarters were not our very best with missed plays, however we started showing some promise in our last quarter with Maddox Jackson scoring on an 8-yard touchdown run, and Waelyn Baliles with a 40-yard keeper for a touchdown in the 4th quarter. Coach Carter was very impressed with how Waelyn played. He tells us “they put pressure on him throughout the night, but that didn’t really affect the way that he played.” Waelyn threw good passes and had some good plays as he performed throughout the night. Cater tells us “he was a weapon running the ball, and he really never backed down from any of it.”

Overall the Colts had some good plays. Despite the fact the Colts lost they are still not hanging their heads down. The season opener did not show the Colts any justice in what to expect this season. Now they head into their first home game of the season this coming Friday against the Chattooga Indians. We are expecting to see a much better game this Friday as the Colts work hard this week on what they did incorrectly against the Bruins.
