Colts get final look before season opener at Northwest
The Colts finished off the preseason with a win during their scrimmage game against the Gordon Central Warriors. The Colts started with their varsity for the first 3 quarters and ended with the JV making the night outstanding! The crowd cheered loud with every play, throw, and score as the Colts made for an unstoppable force on the field.
During the first half of the game there were some great plays on both sides of the ball. During the first few minutes we see a perfect 40 yard throw by Waelyn Baliles to Cayden Moore, later leading to a Moore touchdown grab and Edward Alverez PAT, putting the Colts ahead 7-0. Later in the first quarter we saw a lot more action from our players making Coach Drew Carter proud. Baliles hit on 35-yard QB keeper, pulling away from the defense and putting the Colts up 14-0. Coach Carter tells us “Oh man, we had some guys do some good things on both sides of the ball.”
The big plays weren’t just limited to the offense as cornerback Brandon Manis had not one, but two interceptions in the 2nd quarter. Manis’s 2nd interception setup the Colts with great field position for the offense, where senior running back Chris Ewart added to the lead with a short TD run, making the score 21-0.

Carter explains “We talked about the defense giving us opportunities to put us in a scoring position and offensively, we were so balanced tonight.” During the last quarter of the game we saw action from JV, and they wanted to force some turnovers too, as Corbin Perry recovered a fumble.
The Colts pulled off a great game against the Warriors. With tenacity and toughness Coahulla Creek go into the season prepared. Carter continued to say we are not right where we want to be yet but “We’ve got to keep making that progress week after week after week, and then we’ll be where we want to be.”
As the Colts make a 7 mile drive this Thursday to Northwest Whitfield High School to face the Bruins to kickoff of the regular season, the team prepares for the best. Coach Carter believes the Colts will continue their momentum from the final preseason game telling us “I’m expecting us to build off of what just happened right there and be a hungry team that’s ready to go out there and prove some people wrong.”
The Colts are ready to play hard and fight for wins this season. Join us in Tunnel Hill for a fight against the Bruins Thursday night, kickoff is set for 7:30pm.
