2025 Player Spotlight: Colby Ewart

Senior helps form dominant 3-headed monster on defensive line

One of the biggest bright spots for the 2024 Coahulla Creek Colts was their defensive line, and rising senior Colby Ewart certainly did his part to make it shine.

Ewart was the team leader in sacks, finishing with 4. That sack total finished tied for 3rd best in Region 7-2A, and makes him the co-returning region leader in sacks heading into the 2025 season.

Applying pressure to the quarterback is something Ewart wants to continue to do this season. “I want to break the school record for most sacks in a game.” To get a share of that record, he would need at least 3 sacks.

How has he been working toward that goal? He says “I’ve been focusing on my speed off the line, and just my overall speed in general to get to the quarterback.”

Colby describes himself as “extremely motivated” this offseason, as he feels like his team is embracing an underdog mentality, saying “No one believes in us, and we have everything to prove, with nothing to lose.”

That mindset has consumed the Colts’ team as they prepare for the 2025 season. Prior to beginning summer practice, Ewart says he and 6 of his teammates we’re “going to the field at least twice a week, just trying to better ourselves.” That’s in addition to team activities on the field and in the weight room.

He said his main objective as a team this year is “to play as one unit – not just an offense and a defense.” Ewart also hopes the overall toughness and level of physicality amongst the team is higher in 2025.

He says “everybody on our team knows we can get the job done.” Now it’s time to go do it.
