Colts looking to send seniors out with a big win

Head Coach Drew Carter was pleased with several aspects of last week’s game. He tells us “I was really pleased at how physical we played on both sides of the ball. I feel like our pad level with our offensive and defensive line was really good… we were able to make some explosive plays on the offensive side of the ball and really move the ball pretty consistently. I felt like we really played better than what the score led on, relative to how we have progressed in the season.”

And progress really has been huge for this team. They have come so far from their first games of the season. Carter wants to see them continue to build like they have been in order to prepare for their final match up, and he wants to improve on the mistakes that were made, but Carter feels that “the big thing is building off of what we did last week.”

Carter shares that he is really proud of his team and the efforts they have continued to put in this year, no matter the circumstances. “I feel like our kids see the progress that’s made. It’s been tough for us. We have played a tough schedule this year with a bunch of young and inexperienced guys. We aren’t using that as an excuse because we just have to get better. They see that, and understand that, and they continue to meet that expectation and just show up everyday and work and prepare for the next opponent.”

Our seniors are also very proud of the effort and resiliency they have seen in their final season. I had the privilege of speaking to each of them, and they have all had different experiences this season, but they are all walking away with the same appreciation for their team. 

Carson Weaver has not had the most ideal ending to his season due to an injury, but he still shows his team all his support. He tells us that going into this final game He wants to encourage his teammates to do their best and he especially wants to “give them momentum to go into the next upcoming season.” Weaver is devastated that he cannot play his final game, but he wants to push the team that has been there for him throughout his high school career.

Andrew Russell has had a phenomenal last half of his season. He has bounced back from his injury and been a true asset to his team. He wants to “go out with a bang” on Friday and we certainly hope to see him do just that. Russell has valued “being a contributor” since he has recovered, but he especially contributed before he could return to the field. He was always there to encourage and uplift his teammates whom he considers his brothers. 

Isaac Mcgill also desires to end his high school career with a win. He is prepared to do his job on the field and execute the game plan, but he also wants to take in the moments of his final game under the Friday Night Lights. Isaac says “for my final game I just want to have a lot of fun with my teammates, because I love playing with my teammates. I love this team. Football has been my whole life for the last four years and I have grown so close to these guys. They will definitely be my friends for life and I love all of them and they know that.”

Hudson Sherretts is disheartened to make his final debut on the turf, but he is more than thankful for the experiences that football has given to him. He shares that “It has been a fun team. The coaches are great. It has been an amazing experience and I am sad to leave it, but they are going to be good [in the future] and develop and they’re going to win.”

Jaden Silvius is appreciative of what Creek Football has meant to him. He is proud of what he and the team have accomplished, and he wants to see his team continue that upward track. He shares that he wishes the Colts the best of luck next season and he hopes to “end Friday with a win to give momentum to my underclassmen teammates.”

Kicker Brett Pause hopes that all of this season’s hard work will come together in tomorrow night’s game. Pause has “high confidence in the team” because he believes they will perform like never before with it being the final game. Pause thoroughly values his time with the Creek football program, and closes by saying “I wouldn’t rather kick a field goal for any other team than the Colts.”

Our 6 seniors are so appreciated and will be missed greatly by their team, but we hope to see them accomplish the best, just as they have wished for their team. The Colts face the Ringgold Tigers tomorrow night with kickoff at 7:30. We hope to see this season end with a game that showcases all of the hard work, dedication, and perseverance that shines through this team.
