Colts looking to ride winning momentum

Coahulla Creek wants first home win of the season

Creek football is at the top of their game. After an impressive win against the Murray County Indians, the Colts are holding their heads up high as they prepare to face Union County. The team and fans were beyond excited to see this season’s hard work begin to show, and are hoping to see the same success tomorrow night.

Coach Carter was very pleased by his team. He saw a huge difference in their performance and was impressed not only that his team won, but in how they won. “ It would have been one thing if we kind of had to scrape and claw and only win a close game, which those are always important to be able to do, but the fact that we are able to put a lot of things together and really kind of win in a dominating fashion and then play well in all phases of the game was really huge.”

The team credits their win to all of the small pieces that they have been working on finally coming together. Sophomore RB/DB Tyler Douglas played an excellent game against Murray, especially running the football. Douglas notes on the connections he felt on the field last Friday. “In previous games we had some plays come together because some pieces happened at the same time, but in this game we kind of had all of those come together and had a good time.”

Senior Kicker Brett Pause also felt the same connection when he recognized the team’s trust in him with his field goal. “Everything just clicked and we felt confident in each other and just trusted each other with the ball. We let each other to do our individual jobs. They trusted me with that field goal and they were trusting Andrew with the passes in the end zone. Every single time I would kick off the ball I could feel a good momentum going forward with the team.”

The Colts are wanting to radiate the confidence from last week’s game, and carry with them against the Union County Panthers. Coach Carter notes “It is crazy what a win will do for your team’s morale and energy level because I feel like both of those things have been really good. It has really just lifted us up.” Even with the new mindset, the team’s effort has not been phased. Carter tells us “I still think that we have been focused, but it hasn’t made us feel like we can relax by any means. I think it has made our kids hungry and energized us.”

The new found energy has fueled the preparation this week at practice. Even with a great game, coaches are still driving improvements in the team. Coach Carter tells us “there are still plenty of teaching moments there and corrections to be made, so we have got to get those things tidied up and improve.” Pause tells us that he has been improving his consistency and Douglas has been making sure that he is aware of every opportunity presented to himself on the field.

The team would love to see fans fill the stands for tomorrow night’s game. Kickoff is at 7:30 with seniors being presented for Senior Night before kickoff. We hope to see everyone there to congratulate the seniors and hopefully finish our last home game of the season with a win.

The game can be heard on the Coahulla Creek Sports Network, with coverage starting around 7:10pm.
