The Colts open region play tomorrow night in Kennesaw
Creek Football has not had the opening to their season that they originally desired. Last week, Coahulla fell short to the Chattooga Indians after some second half woes. However, this week starts off the region play, and the Colts are realizing that now more than ever, it is time to reprimand their losses and give everything they’ve got for their team. Tomorrow the Colts will play North Cobb Christian, and they are prepared to push themselves.
The beginning of region games has the Creek excited to hit the turf again. RB/LB Chris Ewart says “I’m excited for region play and to make a statement for our team.” The motivation and drive is also evident in DL/TE Jackson Lowery. Lowery’s response when asked what his mindset is going into Friday’s game was “I want to be physical and I want to win our first region game… [and] the key to us winning is us playing as a team and being physical.” Both Lowery and Ewart put in impressive efforts last week against Chattooga, and they are prepared to leave their mark on the field again tomorrow.
The Colts have taken the time to address and correct mistakes made last week. Coach Carter says that “We are taking more time to focus on ourselves and self correction.” Both Ewart and Lowery respond the same when asked how they have been preparing for the game this week: watching film. The players have been taking the critiques they have been given, and are striving to become a better team out of it.
Carter believes the key to Coahulla putting in a good game tomorrow all falls down to ironing out their simple mistakes. “The message we are giving our guys is that it’s about us.” says Carter. “It all goes back to: Can we do our fundamental basic stuff right to give us the chance? We’ve got to be able to do that stuff before we can start putting in specific gameplan wrinkles.” North Cobb Christian will be a big game for the Colts to attempt to redeem their losses and fix the self-inflicted issues.
Even in all of the efforts, Coach Carter recognizes the disappointment in his team. “It’s tough because we’ve got a competitive bunch. They want to win and be competitive week in and week out, and we haven’t lived up to that standard yet.” However, The Colts have a choice in how they will use these challenges they face. Carter concludes by saying “I’m hoping that it fuels them and it doesn’t negatively affect our confidence and our energy.”
The Colts will travel to Kennesaw to face the North Cobb Christian Eagles tomorrow with kickoff at 7:30. This is the first ever meeting between the 2 teams. The game can be heard on the Coahulla Creek Sports Network.
