Colts seeking big win in last non-region matchup

After a disappointing loss in last week’s rivalry game against Northwest to open the season, Creek football is striving for improvement this Friday. The Colts will travel to take on the Chattooga Indians tomorrow, and they are playing with something to prove.

Starting WR/DB Kobe King put forth an impressive game against the Bruins last week. He is going into the Chattooga game with a positive mindset, “I’m feeling good, just have to execute on offense and stop them on defense.” Kobe was responsible for the longest offensive play in the season opener, and made some impressive plays on defense. He is looking to build on that effort Friday.

Additionally, starting WR/DB Tyler Douglas also played an important role for the Colts against Northwest. Tyler addressed where he noticed that the Colts came up short. “With Northwest we had some deep balls that we let up on and we had some plays that we should have made,” says Tyler. “But with Chattooga I feel like we can really lock-in in this game and do well.” And they will need to do that as Chattooga’s skilled players will pose some threats offensively.

As the Colts seek their first win of the season, they head out for their first road trip of the year, as they will make the hour long drive from Varnell to Summerville. Douglas notes that “We really need to focus hard and keep our minds right as we travel away to this game.” The right mindset is going to be key for pulling off a win this Friday. 

Progress is something the team has been working on day-to-day during their preparation this week. King has especially noticed additional drive in his teammates. When asked about strengths he has seen at practice, he responds with “Intensity. Everybody is getting hyped up at practice.” Douglas describes a “passionate” mentality from his team this week, adding “We have been practicing hard and doing well. We are confident with the stuff we have been putting in and we think we can do well this Friday.”

Coach Carter is especially anxious to see his team get back out on the field, underneath the Friday night lights. Carter has taken last week’s loss and used it as fuel for this week. “I think we have an excellent game plan. Our offensive and defensive lines have had a really good week at practice and have really focused on fixing mistakes from last week. I look for those units to lead us Friday night.” Carter notes that he particularly wants to see improvement in his young linebackers and receivers. “Their youth showed last week and I hope to see them play more confident and faster.” says Carter. 

Coahulla Creek will look to avenge their bitter lost to the Chattooga Indians from last year, as they fell 17-14 on a last second field goal. That will also serve as motivation in tomorrow night’s game.
