The OL will “rely on foundation” of two multi-year starters
The Coahulla Creek offensive line had what appeared to be 5 different players returning with starting experience from their 2023 squad, but as the offseason developed, it eventually turned into just 2.
Marc Lopez (who would’ve been a senior) suffered a season ending leg injury in 2023, and that eventually turned into a career ending one, Colby Ewart (who started all 10 games at guard in 2023) has moved to primary defense, and Jaxon Millsaps (who started the final 3 games of the season at RT) has transitioned to TE.
But for the 2 guys that do return, they bring a wealth of experience and knowledge. Coach David Elsenrath says “Isaac McGill and Chevy Joyce will be the rock for the three new additions. Other team members turn to them for leadership, as they stay calm under pressure, and are laser focused on winning.”
“Issac has improved yearly, both physically and mentally” adds Coach E. Saying as the starting center, McGill is the “commander of the unit”. McGill was a Region 6-3A All-Region Honorable Mention selection last season, and is looking to build off his successful junior campaign.
As for Joyce, Coach E says the starting LT has “developed physically and mentally” too, and is the “strongest member of the OL unit.” Entering his junior season, Joyce has 21 career starts, starting every single game since arriving on campus. He was an Daily Citizen All-Area Team selection last year.
The other three starting spots are still in competition as we close in on game week. The players competing for those remaining spots are Kenon Hughes, Nicholas Bowman, Ivan Hernandez, Breyer Randolph, and Luke Turner.
