Colts breaking in new starting QB for 2nd season in a row
For the 3rd consecutive year, Coahulla Creek will have a different man under center – so far (since 2022), that has not seemed to phase them.
Both of the last 2 starting QBs for the Colts (Kace Kinnamon & Chase Ward) earned Region Offensive Player of the Year honors, and Coach Drew Carter believes the new man calling the shots has the same potential as his predecessors.
“Waelyn (Baliles) has huge upside. Excellent arm talent, with a quick release. He throws the deep and intermediate ball really well.”
Only a sophomore, Baliles also has a commanding presence on the field – physically and mentally. “He’s a big, strong quarterback, that stands tall in the pocket. And he’s also a quick decision maker, with an extremely high football IQ.” says Carter.
While Waelyn’s skill set isn’t exactly the same as Kinnamon’s and Ward’s (who both ran the football quite a bit), Coach Carter notes that “He is a willing runner, with deceptive speed.”
Freshman Fisher Blankenship is the other quarterback listed on the roster, and will serve as the primary JV starter this season.
