Coahulla Creek Spring Football Preview

Colts Complete Day 1 of Spring Practice

The first on-field activity of 2023 took place today for the Coahulla Creek Colts, as they went through day 1 of spring practice. It was also the first glimpse of the Colts under new Head Coach Drew Carter, who was promoted from Offensive Coordinator following Danny Wilson’s departure.

“There’s a lot of excitement coming out of our Winter program. Our guys made tremendous gains in the weight room this Winter, and we’re excited to see what that looks like on the practice field,” said Carter.

The excitement surrounding the program also stems from a landmark year for Coahulla Creek last season, a season that saw them have their first winning record, make the state playoffs for the first time, and break numerous school records.

Many of the guys that helped make the 2022 season possible will not be back though, as they lose a large senior class. Coach Carter is aware of that, and so are his players, “We have a lot of eager guys that have been role players, and they are ready to step into those key spots this year.”

This is the first of 10 practices over the next 2 weeks. Coahulla will take the weekend off before getting into the thick of it next week, with 5 full days (1 day is a film session), followed by 4 days of practice the following week, leading up to their Spring Game vs. Trion on May 20th.

It will be a fun couple of weeks to ripen the football appetite for the real thing this Fall, as the Colts look to carry all this positive momentum into the 2023 season. As for Carter, he just wants his team to get better with each practice, “Me and the staff can’t wait to see the results on the field this Spring.”
